As a proud bodyboarding member of the Newy Granny Grommets I am taking part in this year's DIY Big Freeze to fundraise to help FightMND beat the Beast that is motor neurone disease (MND).

Yes I’m getting a bucket of ice poured over my head before bodyboarding with the other mad grommets!

MND is a progressive disease that gradually takes away a person’s use of their arms and legs, their ability to eat and swallow, their speech and ultimately, their ability to breathe.… all in an average timeframe of just 27 months. Please help me by donating through my page.

It only takes a minute and any money you can give will go to improving care for people living with MND, fund research into more effective treatments, and eventually, find a cure.

I’ve been officially ice bucketed!

Friday 30th May

Thank you everyone who supported me in this morning‘s ice bucket challenge big freeze event fundraising for motor neuron disease. Altogether our fabulous Newcastle group of older women who love bodyboarding, known as the #NewyGrannyGrommets, have raised over $17,000.

As shown in the video I, along with around 100 other GGs, did undergo the “invigorating” dunking with buckets of ice slushed up in sea water at 8am today brrrr. 🥶🥶🥶

I’m so grateful to all who sponsored me, thus contributing to this massive fundraising effort. Luckily the surf goddess looked over us and served up a great session for the bodyboarding that followed the dunking. The ocean felt soooo warm lol.

Thanks to my wonderful daughter for her support and photography throughout. Made it all that more special (and bearable).

Well, there’s no pulling out now. The bucket of ice and water will be going over my head next Friday morning. There will be evidence don’t worry lol. It’s great to have exceeded the target amount for my fundraising, something that I don’t generally feel comfortable with doing. However, I’m really grateful to you that we can contribute to easing the lives of those dealing with modern neuron disease, and hopefully finding a cure through research..

Your’re all welcome to come and view me and the other GGs get the ice bucket treatment at 8am on Friday at Nobbys. Or even have a bit of a bodyboard iwith us. That hot coffee tastes good already lol.

Yes there will be ice and water poured over me at Nobbys Beach at 8am before hitting the surf next Friday.
