I'm challenging 27 to fight MND

Hi there,

I'm taking part in FightMND's Challenge 27 to challenge not just my wellness goals, but also the Beast and be part of the fight towards a world free from MND.

Challenge 27 is a powerful reminder that the average life expectancy for someone diagnosed with MND is just 27 months.

If you can, please support me by donating to my page. Every dollar counts, and all funds raised go to support FightMND’s mission to find a cure for motor neurone disease.

Your support means a lot to me!

Thanks!

Joining the Challenge!

Thursday 24th Jul
I've decided to join the challenge again this year after a few years off for personal reasons.

I am a biomedical researcher, a geneticist and functional genomicist and neuroscientist. I lead my own research as head of my Functional Genomics group (Personalised Medicine Centre at Murdoch University).

I spend much of my time seeking funding to continue my research and the rest in the laboratory teaching the next generation of young scientists. My research aims to understand how and why MND develops in some people and not others, and the factors that contribute to differences in disease severity and life expectancy.

My group is also currently testing several treatment strategies for familial (inherited) and sporadic (no known family involvement) MND cases. My groups also investigates other devastating neurological and neurodegenerative conditions.

My fight for research funding is constant, exhausting, and oftentimes defeating. But it's nothing compared to the fight of those living and dying with MND face. I hope you will help me continue to help them fight the fight and raise much needed research funds for this devastating and fatal disease.

For anyone wondering my chosen profile pic was taken for me (ButterflyGirl_1980) at work on FACE it day. FACE it day calls attention to another research area as close to my heart as MND is, and one with a similar desperate need for increased research funding.
