What is Challenge 27?

add remove

Challenge 27 is a fitness and fundraising challenge running from 1–27 September. It supports FightMND’s mission to find a cure for motor neurone disease (MND).

All you need to do is include 27 into your goal. Whether that’s walking every day for 27 days, cycling 27 kilometres, or trying 27 different exercises. It’s flexible, fun, and open to all ages and fitness levels.

Need some inspiration? Join one of our Challenges:

  • Jack Riewoldt’s 27 Minutes Challenge – perfect if you’re short on time.
  • Katrina Blowers’ 27 Kilometres Challenge – ideal for big goal-setters.
  • Leanne Sklavenitis’ 27 Movements Challenge – for anyone who believes movement is for everyone.

No matter how you move, you’ll be making a powerful impact in the fight against MND.

Why 27?

Motor neurone disease (MND) is aggressive and relentlessly progressive. While some people can live a long life with MND, the average life expectancy is 27 months from diagnosis.

Challenge 27 is not just about challenging your fitness goals. It’s about challenging the Beast and continuing the fight towards a world free of MND.

Yes, you will need to register again to participate in Challenge 27 in 2025.

Do I have to join a Challenge Mentor team?
add remove

Yes, you must join a Challenge Mentors team. Think of the 3 challenges as a loose guide for how you can take on 27. Mentors won't be assigning exercises or setting strict goals, they will simply be cheering you on whilst taking on the challenge with you.

If your desired challenge doesn't fit neatly into any of the 3 challenges, just pick a mentor whose 'why' resonates most with you. There is plenty of room for interpretation within the Challenge so if you want to take on 270km over 27 days or 27 minutes of exercise per day, you can personalise your challenge to meet your goals.

Where do the funds I raise go?

add remove

At FightMND we work to invest into the most innovative and passionate researchers with the aim to find effective treatments and ultimately a cure for motor neurone disease (MND).

In addition to funding MND research, FightMND also funds MND care and assistive equipment for people living with MND.

Investing in research continues to be our best weapon against the Beast, but it’s expensive and takes time. We have made a lot of progress, but the fight is not over. We continue to raise vital funds until we beat the Beast that is MND.
