I'm challenging 27 to fight MND

Hi there,

I'm taking part in FightMND's Challenge 27 to challenge not just my wellness goals, but also the Beast and be part of the fight towards a world free from MND.

Challenge 27 is a powerful reminder that the average life expectancy for someone diagnosed with MND is just 27 months.

If you can, please support me by donating to my page. Every dollar counts, and all funds raised go to support FightMND’s mission to find a cure for motor neurone disease.

Your support means a lot to me!

Thanks!

My Updates

27 days

Sunday 28th Sep
So, we were of grid fit the last days of the challenge. We were caning at Geranium. Seven helped me cross the finish line like the champion she is. We walked through sand hills, man it was tough. At some points it felt like we weren't even moving. We had no service most of the time, so I'm not sure if the exact km distance, but judging by the blisters and my aging butt muscles,  it must have
been way more than 10 😂.
I like to think maybe I helped bring a bit more awareness to the cause, and raised a little money.
Thank you to everyone who donated, and encouraged me. I know it can be hard with so much going on, but please keep MND in your thoughts if you are ever thinking of donating to a worthy cause.
And thank you to Sally and Seven for keeping me company on some of my walks.
MND F@#K You.

Back in the city

Wednesday 24th Sep
Yesterday was ride to work day. It's was freezing, but at least I didn't get wet.
Today Seven and I did our walk in the city. She did a great job.
We have walked so far, but it doesn't feel far enough some how. Only a couple of days to go.
Thanks for all the support x.

Oh yeah, today...

Monday 22nd Sep
Today, Seven and I walked from The Bluff to Victor and back, in a very round about way. Heaps of construction along the beach front. I'd like to say it was nice, peaceful and tranquil, but I hate the beach. The smell, the sound, the wind... it was the encouragement I needed to spur me on to get away from it. Seven did a great job. We walked more inland on the way back. The last k back to the car was along the beach front. I was starting to get sea sick when we finally reached the car. Seven pretty much passed out as soon as she got in the car. So happy to have my walking buddies coming along for the challenge.

Really Bad At Updates

Monday 22nd Sep
So, it turns out the 10km isn’t so bad. It’s the “Blogging” and updates I suck at. The past couple of weeks have been a bit of a shit show weather wise. More Treadmilling than I like which is super boring, and no one wants to hear about that. I did still ride my bike to work, got wet. All good. The rain usually stops once I get home. The Wind is worse, when you have to pedal DOWN HILL, you know it’s bad.
Sally and I walked in the city last last Wednesday. I had an appointment, so I parked far away, we walked there, Sally got to have a sleep, then we walked back. It rained on the way back. Thankfully it stopped when we got back to the car. We did nearly get hit by two cars when we were crossing the road. The first one I let go because he was probably halfway through his turn when our light changed. Yes, that’s right. We were at a Pedestrian crossing where we waited patiently for our go signal. The first guy came round before we stepped onto the road, the second, however... That Mole beeped at us when we were half way across. WITH A GREEN MAN!!! I don’t know what her lights said, but I'm pretty sure pedestrians have right off easy to turning veichles.
Anyway, you will be pleased to know the driver made it out unscathed. Personal Growth comes in many forms.
This Challenge has been much harder than I anticipated. Not physically. I’m pretty sure I do 100km a day. Mentally it has been quite confronting.
I don’t need to go on about the impact of MND. Google it. Read about it. Talk about it. Donate.
Thank You

Saturday

Saturday 6th Sep
Today I thought I'd see how far I walked, just doing what I do. I had to take down and rebuild a fence, and to some touch ups on a couple of others. It was well over 10km, with heavy lifting, so much hammering, and just a wee bit of swearing. And I'll have to go back tomorrow and do more. And I'll have to go back in a month, and then another, and then a few more... because sheep suck.
My point is, I would rather have pulled out every hair on my body with tweezers, than have been fencing today. NOBODY likes fixing sheep fences, except maybe, someone who can't do it anymore.
MND takes away everything you used to be able to do.
I have the luxury of knowing, even though it sucks, that I will be going back to fix sheep fences months from now. Not everyone has that luxury.
Donate, share, think about everything you do, everyday, and think about what it would mean to not be able to do it anymore.

Thought it was Saturday, but it's not.

Friday 5th Sep
Today was about 8km of treadmill, because it was 6° here until about 10am. The rest was out in the wild, checking the sheep.
Keep warm people. Donate, share, be aware.

I'm pretty sure it's Thursday

Thursday 4th Sep
Bike day. I rode to with again today. I want sure i was going to be able to because it was raining when I woke up this morning, but it turned out to be a beautiful day. Chilly, but nice. Until I went to leave work, yep, rain. All good though, it only rained half way 🤣.

3 down 22 to go

Wednesday 3rd Sep
It was a treadmill day today. I had a busy day today, so I got up at 5am to get done early. It's also good to get a "rest" day in, my legs appreciated a flat surface. It's back on the bike tomorrow...

2 Down 25 to go

Tuesday 2nd Sep
I rode my bike to work today. It's a 10km round trip, convenient. What's not convenient is the copious amount of flowering wattle. 🤧. Oh and the head wind home, and the guy that was grading the road.
This is not about convenience or being comfortable. It's not about easy, because I bet MND is not convenient or easy.
Donate if you can, share, spread awareness, breathe through your mouth when you ride your bike past the wattle.

1 down, 26 to go...

Monday 1st Sep
We did our first 10km! I thought we might get rained out, and have to resort to the treadmill, but the skies cleared, and Seven even needed a dip in a puddle on the way back. We walked/jogged from Yank to the beach at Normie. It was a slow start with Seven needing to smell EVERY SINGLE BUSH, TREE, AND LEAF all the way there.
Please support me if you can. Donations, shares, words of encouragement.
Thanks guys.

27 Challenge

Sunday 31st Aug
Hi guys, I'm going to give this a good crack. 27 days 10km a day. I'm going to walk, ride out treadmill 10km a day, for 27 days. I'm hoping to raise $2700. $100 a day!  If you can help out, that would be great. It's about awareness, not personal goals. If you can't donate, share, tell your friends, let's get this shit sorted.
