I'm challenging 27 to fight MND

Hi everyone,

I'm taking part in FightMND's Challenge 27 to challenge not just my wellness goals, but also the Beast and be part of the fight towards a world free from MND.

Challenge 27 is a powerful reminder that the average life expectancy for someone diagnosed with MND is just 27 months.

If you can, please support me by donating to my page. Every dollar counts, and all funds raised go to support FightMND’s mission to find a cure for motor neurone disease.

Your support means a lot to me!

Thanks!

27 Minutes for the Fight: Honouring Shane and Fighting for a Cure

Thursday 14th Aug
Introduction

This September marks 10 years since my late husband, Shane, lost his battle with motor neurone disease (MND). Shane was a truly extraordinary man—so giving that he’d give you the shirt right off his back. Loved by many, he was the kind of person who left a lasting impression wherever he went.

In his honour, I’m taking part in “27 mins for the Fight MND”. Every day during the challenge, I will be exercising for at least 27 minutes—pushing myself physically while raising funds to fight this devastating disease. It may only be 27 minutes each day, but together, it can mean so much.

Why 27 Minutes?

In MND, the average life expectancy from diagnosis is tragically short—just around 27 months. This number has profound significance, a reminder of time lost—and the precious time still to be won by advancing research. That’s why my commitment is 27 minutes every single day—to honour Shane’s courage and to fuel the fight for others still battling the Beast.

A Decade of Impact: What Fight MND Has Achieved

Thanks to supporters like you, Fight MND has made remarkable strides:

1. Major Funding for Cure & Care

Since 2014, over AU$117 million has been invested in research and care projects to benefit Australians living with MND.

Funding has supported 15 clinical trials and 34 drug development projects, helping put Australia at the forefront of MND research.

2. Groundbreaking Research & Trials

Clinical trials such as METFLEX (testing Trimetazidine across Brisbane, London, and Utrecht) and promising molecule-based therapies like mEphA4-Fc are pushing boundaries.

Early diagnosis and treatment projects, led by dedicated researchers, are giving new hope for the future.

3. Caring Investments That Matter

Over AU$16.49 million has been directed toward care—improving guidelines, assistive tools, nutrition support, and care coordination.

Programs like “A Friend’s Place” help children and families cope with the emotional impact of MND.

4. A National Movement

The annual Big Freeze at the ‘G has become an iconic event, raising over AU$115 million to date.

Communities across Australia unite under the blue beanie, showing the power of collective action.

Why Your Support Matters

Thirteen years ago, Shane began to face this cruel disease. Today, I see the difference that every dollar, every trial, and every beanie has made.

By joining me in supporting 27 mins for the Fight MND, you’ll be helping to fund groundbreaking research, improve care for people living with MND, and bring us closer to a cure. My daily 27-minute exercise is a reminder that while MND can take so much, it can’t take away hope, love, or determination.

How You Can Help

Donate to my “27 mins” challenge—every contribution counts.

Share this blog or your own story using hashtags #FightMND and #27MinsForTheFight.

Buy a blue beanie—it’s more than just warm, it’s a symbol of hope.

Shane was generous beyond words, always giving, always caring. On this tenth anniversary, I choose to honour him with action—27 minutes a day dedicated to a cause that means so much.

If you’re reading this, thank you. In making time—just 27 minutes—you’re helping turn memory into movement, heartbreak into hope, and a fight into a future.

Together, we remember. Together, we fight.
