In memory of Dr Daniel Lane.

Hi there,

I wanted to honour and celebrate Dr Daniel Lane (my father)'s memory by raising money for FightMND.

He bravely fought MND but lost his fight in early 2023.

I will be tackling Bondi to Manly 80KM Ultramarathon on 25th October 2025.

The hope is to end the beast (MND) so that future families don't have to go through the pain and hardship it brings.

It only takes a minute and any money you can give (no matter how large or small) will go a long way to helping us reach our target.

Thank you, we really appreciate your support.

Bondi to Manly 80km COMPLETED!

Thursday 30th Oct
Hi all,

Was thrilled to finish the 80KM ultra race and with a finish time of 10h31m10s.

Thank you for sponsoring me for this race, could not be more grateful!

Training session - legs 3 and 4 - 11th October

Monday 13th Oct
From 9am on Saturday I went off with a group of runners from Coogee Run Club, embarking on the second half of the course. This was an important training session as I had only been north of the Sydney Harbour Bridge a handful of times. Getting a better sense of the course was key, plus another long session in.

Starting from Kirribili, was already very hot at 9am. Thus, a great (but brutal) session was expected. Learning from previous weekend's training, I brought with me a bunch of salt tablets (to help prevent cramps) and some painkillers (for end part). I also sensibly this time brought some energy (lollies) to begin with as well, so I didn't need to scavenge for some on the course.

Over the course, I'd take a couple of salt tablets, some red frogs, and every 20-30 mins or so.

Some beautiful sights we came across. On the journey, some of the highlights included:

- having to parkour around some flooded pathway under Split Bridge,
- running across sand on multiple beaches, as a running pack, while many people tanned and watched on.
- jumping from rock to rock to avoid other water, from one beach to another.
- great views of city/ocean, taking a number of pictures with the group.

This time around, I avoided any cramps which was promising (no doubt thanks to salt tablets). Close to the end of the run in Manly, having to swerve past people on the beach pathways was not enjoyable. On the day at 79km done, I won't be a happy chappy having to do that again :).

After the run, I enjoyed a pint and some food with the few stragglers left at the end at Hotel Steyne in Manly. Difficult to imagine how much 1 pint would do to me after 80km.

While at the pub, I was still trying to mentally get my head around having to do one marathon after another. That's when the race truly begins!

Lesson(s) learned on this training day:
- make everything accessible in front pockets that I need easily accessible, i.e. salt tablets, energy. I had initially started with all my lollies in my back pocket, not ideal.
- print out course map and make key notes for support crew to use on the day.
- will probably need whole thing of salt tablets on the day as went through ~20 before the end of the run.

Training session - first two legs - 4th October 2025

Sunday 5th Oct
With the Coogee Run Club, I ran the first half (40km) of the Bondi to Manly route on 4th October. Beautiful views and got more familiar with the route for race day.

Great people I met on this day out, and beautiful day out.

First time I've had my quads cramp which was an interesting experience. Crew I ran with fortunately knew a great solution to cramping, salt tablets! Definitely adding those to my kit on race day.

Great to train with a couple of killers as well! One guy doing 240km race in November and a woman similarly doing Bondi to Manly in 3 weeks. Both showing me how it's done.

Lessons:
- carry paracetamol
- carry salt tablets (for cramping)
- Walk more of up-hill areas and stairs to preserve legs more.
