What is the Big Freeze?
The Big Freeze is FightMND’s largest fundraising campaign, raising vital funds for MND research and projects supporting those living with MND
On 8 June 2026, the MCG will be flooded with blue Beanies as brave celebrities take the plunge into Australia’s coldest ice bath. And we’re not stopping there! We’re freezing the nation with State Freeze events in WA, SA, and Qld!

Why should I volunteer at the Big Freeze?
Our volunteers are the heart and soul of FightMND. We couldn’t do what we do without them!
We are always on the lookout for new volunteers for the Big Freeze.
Volunteering at a Big Freeze is not only rewarding, it’s a lot of fun! If you’re ready to be a part of something meaningful and fun, we’d love to welcome you on board.
How can I become a FightMND volunteer during Big Freeze 12?
Thanks for your support. You can sign up to volunteer with FightMND here.
What does volunteering at a Big Freeze activation involve?
Volunteering at a Big Freeze activation is an awesome way to make a real impact while having a blast! As a volunteer, you may be asked to:
- Shake it up by collecting cash donations with our bold and bright yellow tins
- sell our iconic Big Freeze Beanies
- hold one of our big ‘Beanie Sale’ sings and grab the crowd’s attention.
Before the big day, we'll let you know exactly what role you'll be taking on, so no surprises! And, to make sure everything runs smoothly, you'll be part of a fun team, each playing a key part in making the day a success.
Can I volunteer with a group?
Of course! We know that lots of our volunteers like to come with friends or family and enjoy the day together.
When signing up you will be able to invite those you want to volunteer with to sign up or they can sign up themselves, just make sure to let us know who your group is!
Can I volunteer by myself?
Sure! You can sign up to volunteer alone.
When you volunteer, you'll join a group for the day. This ensures all roles are filled and the events run smoothly.
Many of our best stories come from volunteers who meet for the first time and bond over their love for helping. You might even make new friends!
Are there a limited number of volunteer spots available?
Yes. Limited spots are available for volunteers. be sure to sign up before they're snapped up!
If we reach full capacity, no stress! A waitlist will open, and we'll be in contact if a spot becomes available. Keep an eye on your inbox for any updates from us!
What happens if I miss out on a spot?
Waitlists become available for each activation as soon as we reach capacity and volunteer spots are exhausted.
If spots become available, we will be reaching out to the waitlist with the opportunity to sign up on a first come first serve basis.
Keep an eye out for further emails from us regarding this.
I've missed out on a volunteering place for Big Freeze 12 and I'm disappointed as I really wanted to help. Is there any way I can be involved?
Thank you for your eagerness to volunteer with FightMND for Big Freeze 12! We truly appreciate your passion and support.
Sadly, volunteer spots are limited and have been filled. The good news is that you are now on the waitlist for your local event. If any openings arise, we’ll contact you with the chance to join.
Your support means a lot to us. We’ll keep you posted on new ways to get involved and hope to welcome you to the team soon!
What should I bring with me on activation day?
Volunteering at an activation is a fun and busy 6-hour adventure, so it’s important to come prepared to stay comfy and energized! Here's what you'll need to bring:
Comfortable clothes
Wear comfy shoes, pants and something warm. You’ll be on your feet for most of the day. Don’t worry about the top. You’ll receive your Big Freeze volunteer t‑shirt when you arrive so you’ll look the part!
Food
Pack your own snacks and meals to stay energized during your shift. Your future self will thank you!
Water bottles
Staying hydrated is key. Make sure you have a water bottle you can refill during the day.
A positive attitude
This one’s essential! Bring your best vibes! Positivity, energy and enthusiasm make the experience unforgettable for you and everyone you help.
Do I get a ticket to the AFL game I’m volunteering at?
Thanks to the generosity of the ALF clubs involved with our Big Freeze activations, we’re very grateful to have a small number of General Admission (GA) tickets for each game.
These tickets are VERY limited and are available on a first come, first served system.
But don’t worry – just because tickets are gone, doesn’t mean volunteer spots are! There are still plenty of chances to get involved and make a difference.
