I am fundraising for FightMND!
In 2013, our family received the terrible news that our beautiful wife and mum, Lyn, had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Our family knew what lay ahead. MND takes away a person’s ability to move, to speak, their independence and ultimately their ability to breathe.
Shortly after mum’s diagnosis, my dad and I had amazing experience with my Mum, when we travelled to France - exploring Paris and its surrounds, creating memories that would last a lifetime. When mum passed away in 2018, I returned to France to reflect and revisit many of the memories we created together.
MND is a beast.
It’s hard to diagnose, often the last of a long list of horrible diseases, and there’s presently no cure. But there is hope. The work that the amazing researchers and scientists are doing into MND is encouraging, but there is a long way to go. Medical research is expensive and takes time, and the work that the incredible team at FightMND do in raising much needed funds is amazing.
That’s why, in 2025, I am returning to my ‘special place’, Paris, to take on the Paris Marathon. The training has been hard, it hurts and it’s challenging me in ways I didn’t realise I could be. But it’s nothing compared to the challenges that those living with MND and their loved ones face every day.
Over 42.2km, I’ll see many incredible sites and will relive many special memories of my time there with Mum.
