I’m fundraising for FightMND

In honor of my grandmother who passed away in May 2024 from MND; approximately 12 months after diagnosis, I am taking part in this year's DIY Big Freeze at our footy club 'Kingsley Junior Football Club WA' to fundraise to help FightMND beat the Beast that is motor neurone disease (MND).

MND is a progressive disease that gradually takes away a person’s use of their arms and legs, their ability to eat and swallow, their speech and ultimately, their ability to breathe.… all in an average timeframe of just 27 months. Please help me by donating through my page.

It only takes a minute and any money you can give will go to improving care for people living with MND, fund research into more effective treatments, and eventually, find a cure.

My Fight for MND

Those of you who know me, know that our family lost my grandmother to MND in May 2024. She was 82.

In February 2023 my husband, 3 kids & I took a road trip to Melbourne from Perth to attend the airshow and catch up with family & friends we hadn't seen in a long time. I am so grateful for that time with my grandmother during that trip because little did we know we would only have her around for just over 12 more months. During our visit, she could walk, talk and in true style, still cooked for us all. I thought her limited arm movement was due to a stroke.

Later that year in October, I took the kids to Melbourne for Monster Jam and we spent more quality time with her, however, this time, she couldn't speak and relied on an alphabet chart to spell out the words she wanted to say. One of my uncles cared for her around the clock. She cried so much when we said our goodbyes, I think she knew it would be the last time she would see the kids and I. We tried to video call over the following weeks & months but that just became too hard because it broke her every time and that was heartbreaking for me.

I wish she didn't have to endure the beast. I hope no one in my circle ever has to endure this. We can't do much but with your help, we can try and find a cure to prevent anyone else having to suffer this way. Please, take the time with your loved ones, ask for the family favorite recipes, soak it all in because for some, MND takes them in the blink of an eye. And it bloody hurts the heart!
