My MND Story

Earlier this year, I received news no one ever wants to hear: I was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). It’s a condition that slowly takes away the muscles we all rely on for the simple things in life — moving, talking, eating, even breathing. At the moment, there’s no cure.

MND is a bit of a mystery. We know it affects more people in regional and rural areas, and while scientists suspect the environment plays a role, they don’t have all the answers yet. Around 90% of cases — including mine — pop up out of the blue, with no family history. The other 10% are genetic.

Day to day, living with MND can be confronting and frustrating. But here’s the thing: I’m not giving up. I have my family, my friends, and one very spirited daughter, Bella, who reminds me daily that there’s still so much joy to grab hold of. She’s my greatest reason to keep pushing forward.

That’s why I’m sharing my story — not for sympathy, but to raise awareness and, hopefully, a bit of money to fuel the incredible research that’s happening right now. Every dollar raised goes towards supporting people living with MND today, and funding the breakthroughs that will one day stop this disease in its tracks.
