I’m fundraising for FightMND
Hi
Team,
As
healthcare workers, we are often exposed to the challenges presented by
devastating diseases. However, we also have the opportunity to be involved in
wonderful patient journeys as we make a positive impact on the lives of many.
In light of this, I believe as a department we could come together to
show our support for a worthy cause.
This
May, I would like our department to have its own 'FightMND' day. This year
marks 10 years that FightMND has committed to finding effective treatments and
ultimately a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). MND affects the nerves
in the brain and spinal cord that control muscles, affecting the person's
movement, speech, swallowing and breathing. Its rapid
progression typically results in a life expectancy of 1-5 years after
diagnosis.
The
FightMND foundation raises money to ‘fight the beast’. Their beanies are
iconic with the cause, led by the incredible efforts and publicity raised by
Neil Daniher.
To
contribute to this cause, we have arranged for the sale of 'Big Freeze' beanies
within our department. These beanies will be available for purchase on our own
FightMND day, Friday 24th of May. I encourage as many of you as possible
to wear these beanies on this day to show our support and raise money to ‘fight
the beast’!
As
we reach sales targets, more staff will be nominated for the ice bucket
challenge, starting with myself. The more we raise, the more staff you
can drench in freezing water!
Please
pass this on to others in your department and anyone you know around the
hospital to join us too. For those unable to join us on the day, and would like
to donate, come see me and I can get your beanie earlier. There will also be an
opportunity to purchase beanies at the Eastern Health Medical Imaging Seminar
CPD day on Saturday the 18th of May.
You
can also purchase for family/friends, I will have children's sizes available
too.
Thanks
for your support, I am so grateful to work with a wonderful caring team at Box
Hill.
