I am fundraising for FightMND!

Hi there,

I'm Eddie an Australian living abroad in Belgium.  For over a decade now my mother Janet has been fighting Motor Neuron Disease (MND).  I'm 37, out of shape and decided that now is the time to embark on a crazy adventure, so with a bicycle, a trailer some camping gear and my dog I'm going to ride to Italy.

1200km to Milan will be my primary goal as I navigate the Alps to get there. I give myself 40 days to make the journey, however my ambition is higher.  If I make it to Milan I will be content with my achievement, but if I can I want to ride all the way to Calabria in the south of Italy 2500km total. I will do this to raise awareness and money to FightMND and help beat the Beast that is MND.

The average life expectancy of someone diagnosed with MND is just 27 months.

Training begins

Wednesday 12th Mar
Thanks to the support of my friend Wim from Raw Performance, I have begun fitness screening and will be whipped into shape over the coming 2 months to ensure I can succeed in my challenge.

Monday saw me do my initial screening including blood tests, a muscle quality assessment and body fat assessment.  Today I will embark on strength screening and by next week will have a training schedule designed to help me maximise my ability and make it over the Alps.

If I succeed in getting over the Alps I will be over the moon with my achievement, however I am ever ambitious.  My ultimate target is to ride 2500km to Calabria at the toe of Italy.  Given my current fitness and skills this will be a near impossible task... doesn't mean I can't try... 

Doing this to fight MND is giving me extra motivation to do my best and I thank anyone who will donate their support to this.

Well done Edward. I lost my Dad to MND 13 years ago. Your Mum was a wonderful colleague and we have great memories from Freddie’s. We miss her in Mandurah. She taught Ashlee in Year 7 and was a favourite with many students.
