I'm challenging 27 to fight MND
On the 22nd of September 2025, Hobbo will have been living with MND for 27 months. A day and date we’ve feared since initially beating his 6-12 months diagnosis.
This is why I’m taking on the FightMND Challenge 27 this September!
In these last 27 months, our lives have changed every day. Hobbo has got us through every single one of these days. The good ones, the tough ones, the fucked ones and the great ones. Each day, we see how remarkable he is, how loving, how graceful, how loyal, how tough, and how fearless he is.
We have all celebrated two birthdays together, growing older, wiser, braver, and bolder. Birthdays, anniversaries, Easter, and Christmas – these milestone moments are incredibly special. We treat them as a bonus, not a given. The love and joy of these days, and the magic of ordinary everyday moments, keep us going and determined to fight the Beast that is MND.
In Hobbo’s own humble words
“ i consider myself somewhat lucky in a bizarre way, I understand how ridiculous this sounds coming from a bloke, who can’t speak can’t walk and struggles to move. But I think it’s lucky that it wasn’t sudden like a car accident. I have a chance to say goodbye and make sure that I can impart what little wisdom that I have learned.
I focus on what I can still do, not what I’ve lost. I know what matters now. Time. Love. Presence. I spend my days focused on my family”
Seeing you, my remarkable husband and father to our children, face this disease with grit and grace, humility and dedication, to leave a legacy of love, strength, kindness, and action is more than reason enough to step up and row 2km a day for 27 days.Despite the horrific pain and grief, Hobbo continues to inspire us every day with his unwavering spirit.
