This Spring, I'm taking part in the FightMND Challenge 27.

Hi there,

From 1 September – 27 September, we’ll be taking on a huge challenge to raise awareness and funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in memory of Tosh, who sadly passed away in 2022. We’re determined to honour his legacy by making a difference in the fight against this devastating disease.

To pay tribute to him I will be walking 270km.

Before Tosh passed away, he shared a piece of advice that we’ll always carry with us: “No matter what life throws at you, always find time to enjoy a beer in the sun.” This simple reminder to savour the good moments, even when times are tough, is something we think about every day. It’s that same spirit of resilience and joy that we’re bringing into this challenge.

Each of us has chosen a challenge that reflects the strength, determination, and love Tosh showed throughout his life, especially during his battle with MND. Our goal is to raise as much as we can to support research, provide care, and work towards a future without MND.

Your support means the world to us. Every donation, no matter how small, will help us honour Tosh’s memory and bring hope to those affected by MND. Thank you for helping us make a difference, and remembering to enjoy a beer in the sun—just like Tosh would have wanted.

Day 27

Monday 30th Sep
Challenge 27 complete! I walked over 300km in 27 days, and the final day was spent in Melbourne—celebrating at the Grand Final parade and footy festival. Wrapped it up with a well-earned beer in the sun. I'm incredibly proud of this achievement and so grateful for all the support I've received along the way. A huge thank you to everyone for their encouragement and generous donations throughout this journey! FINAL TOTAL: 303km

Day 26

Sunday 29th Sep
A combination of torrential rain and a road trip to Gundagai meant that I only managed to walk a small number of kilometres today.
TOTAL: 289km

Day 25

Thursday 26th Sep
Even though I hit my 270km goal early, I’ve decided to keep walking for the full 27 days. Who knows, I might even reach 300km! Keeping the momentum going! TOTAL: 286km

Day 24

Thursday 26th Sep
I reached my goal of walking 270km—3 days early! Feeling incredibly accomplished and, of course, had to celebrate with an ice cream. Thrilled to see that Messina has pistachio back on the menu! Perfect reward for the journey. TOTAL: 277km

Day 23

Tuesday 24th Sep
Another routine commute to work today, but getting exciting as I’m now very close to reaching my final goal!
264km down, 6km to go

Day 22

Monday 23rd Sep
Started the day with a stunning coastal walk, enjoying the perfect weather and even spotting a few whales along the way! This walk was extra special as I hit the 250km mark—feels amazing to reach that milestone. In the afternoon, we capped the weekend off by watching the Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants AFLW match. 252km down, 18km to go!

Day 21

Monday 23rd Sep
Got up early for a walk around the bay, which was a bit of a struggle after such a late night! Still, it was worth pushing through for the fresh air and peaceful morning views.
243km down, 27 km to go

Day 20

Monday 23rd Sep
Another day filled with walking, this time heading to the Sydney Cricket Ground for the Prelim between Sydney and Port Adelaide. After a hard-fought match, the Swans came out on top and are now headed to the Grand Final! Up the Bloods! 231km down, 39km to go

Day 19

Thursday 19th Sep
I had an eventful walk today when I decided to switch things up and take a different route home. This unfortunately landed me inside of a parking garage. A lift ride and a few ramps later, I navigated my way back onto a familiar street to safety. 217km down, 53km to go!

Day 18

Wednesday 18th Sep
I hit the 200km mark on my way to work today and I was overcome with a great sense of pride but also slight disappointment that I’m almost finished the challenge. Walking has provided me with space in my day to practice gratitude and I’m so thankful that I’m able to walk home in the beautiful warm weather. 206km down, 64kms to go

Day 17

Wednesday 18th Sep
The thing I’ve found most surprising about this challenge is realising how far away places seem in theory, when in reality, they are much closer than you think. I had dinner in Surry Hills, which is only just over a km from Sydney CBD. Because it was so close (and for the fact that I had to forgo my usual commute from work), I turned down a lift home so I could meet my daily distance goal. 195km down, 75km to go!

Day 16

Tuesday 17th Sep
Very cold start to the week! BOM told me it felt like 0.8 degrees when I left for my morning walk. I can’t complain though, the rain has held off and I’m feeling very grateful for the beautiful blue skies I’ve had the entire challenge so far. This must be the driest September in recent memory. 184kms down, 86kms to go!

Day 15

Tuesday 17th Sep
Less than 100kms to go! I definitely am feeling the effects of all of the walking I am doing. The extreme muscle fatigue seems unrelenting. We spent the very crisp morning out at Olympic Park where Harry and our friends tried out URBNSURF for the first time. 173km down, 97kms to go

Day 14

Tuesday 17th Sep
I kicked off the day with a refreshing morning walk with Gina. The evening brought with it a cool change. We indulged in some Korean food followed by the GWS Giants vs Brisbane Lions game. GWS put up a good fight, but unfortunately, fell short in the final minutes. Gutted for them! 167km down, 103km to go

Day 13

Tuesday 17th Sep
Another work week comes to an end. Managed to rack up some additional kms with a lunchtime walk on top of my usual commute to and from work. Thanks to a killer playlist I clocked my fasted time ever walking home. 154km down, 116kms to go!

Day 12

Thursday 12th Sep
I planned to take the day off today due to the predicted rainfall, but the weather held off long enough for a morning walk. 8km is not bad for a “rest day”!
141km down, 129km to go!

Day 11

Wednesday 11th Sep
Switched things up today by walking to the Comedy Store at Moore Park to watch The Footy with Broden Kelly live podcast. It’s hard to believe that I’m almost half way to my goal of 270kms. 133km down, 137kms to go!

Day 10

Tuesday 10th Sep
Another beautiful day for walking! Feeling grateful for the sunshine ahead of the predicted rain later this week. Easily completed my target today thanks to a peaceful lunchtime walk. I also received my Challenge 27 pack in the mail which was a lovely surprise! 122kms down, 148kms to go

Day 9

Monday 9th Sep
Another 11kms today!
111kms down, 159kms to go

Day 8

Sunday 8th Sep
Woke up today feeling especially sore but I’m glad to report that I pushed through the 8km needed to make it to 100km! 100kms down, 170km to go.

Day 7

Saturday 7th Sep
One week done and dusted. Big day starting with a walk with my friend Gina, followed by a cracking game of footy. 92kms down, 178kms to go!

Day 6

Friday 6th Sep
TGIF. Another 12kms today! 75km down, 195kms to go.

Day 5

Thursday 5th Sep
Got most of my kms done this morning before work. While I forgot my headphones, I was grateful to witness such a beautiful sunrise. 63km down, 207km to go!

Day 4

Wednesday 4th Sep
Hit the 50km mark today! I treated myself to a light rail trip home, as I hit my daily km target early, to give my feet a break. Pictured above are a few of the things helping me along on my journey to the 270; new sneakers, Compeed bandages (for the blisters kindly given to me by my old sneakers) and my trusty theragun. 50km down, 220km to go

Day 3

Tuesday 3rd Sep
Appreciative of the cooler weather today. Had to find a new route to work as the previous route was way too muddy. New one has a better view anyway! 40km down, 230km to go

Day 2

Monday 2nd Sep
11km today with the blisters to prove it. 29km down, 241kms to go.

Day 1: Done!

Sunday 1st Sep
18kms down, 252kms to go
