A Message from Ron Hobden

Big Freeze is coming back to MHPS and this year we’re going even BIGGER, LOUDER and COLDER than last year! 
Last year our incredible MHPS community raised more than $25,000 for FightMND, helping fund vital research into treatments and a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND), while also supporting families already living with this beast of a disease like the Hobden family through essential Care initiatives.
Many families know the Hobden family: Annie, Ron (“Hobbo”), Lizzie  (1R) and Henry. In 2023, Hobbo was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease at just 35 years old, only one week before he was due to run the Gold Coast Marathon.

MND is a cruel fatal disease that gradually takes away a person’s ability to walk, talk, eat and eventually breathe. But it does not take away who they are. Hobbo is still the same proud, sports-loving dad. Hobbo uses a power wheelchair and communicates through eye-gaze technology on an iPad, which he operates using his eyes.
One of the most moving parts of last year’s campaign was how many people from our beautiful community quietly shared their own connection to MND. Grandparents, parents, siblings, friends and colleagues, so many families have been touched by this insidious disease.
If you feel comfortable, we would love families to continue sharing stories and photos of loved ones impacted by MND so we can honour and remember them together throughout this campaign. With permission, we would also love to include some photos on our fundraising page because this event is for them too.

And speaking of dunk tank heroes…Mrs Barry is bravely taking the plunge again. Talk about leading by example.  Will be announcing our brave dunk-ees over the coming weeks. Rumour has it there may even be a few familiar red-and-white athletes taking the plunge this year… 👀❄️
MHPS let’s do it again and raise some funds for CURE AND CARE to end MND.

We're fundraising for FightMND

We are taking part in this year's DIY Big Freeze to fundraise to help FightMND beat the Beast that is motor neurone disease (MND).

MND is a progressive disease that gradually takes away a person’s use of their arms and legs, their ability to eat and swallow, their speech and ultimately, their ability to breathe... all in an average timeframe of just 27 months. Please help us by donating through our page.
