2026 Alkira Big Freeze

The Alkira Big Freeze is back!

We are proud to be taking part in this year’s DIY Big Freeze to help raise funds for FightMND and support the fight against motor neurone disease (MND).

For many within the Alkira Secondary College community, this cause is deeply personal. We have members of our community who are living with MND, and others who have experienced the heartbreak of losing loved ones to this devastating disease. Through this fundraiser, we stand together in support, hope and action.

As part of our fundraising efforts, we will be hosting the Alkira Big Freeze, where a group of brave teachers and two of our College Captains will take the plunge into near-freezing water to help raise awareness and funds for FightMND. We will also be running a range of student activities and selling official FightMND merchandise, giving everyone in our community the opportunity to get involved and show their support.

MND is a progressive disease that gradually takes away a person’s ability to move, speak, eat, swallow and eventually breathe — often within an average timeframe of just 27 months. Despite the challenges it brings, people living with MND continue to show incredible courage and resilience every day.
